Russell Brand made his first stage appearance when he was 15 years old playing the role of Fat Sam in his school play, Bugsy Malone. His education was funded by the council and he studied at the Italia Conti Academy and then at the Drama Centre, Camden with a scholarship of 3 years.

He reached the finals of the famous Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Competition. After that, MTV came calling and he presented a number of shows like Dance Floor Chart and MTV Select.

In 2007, Russell Brand's book, My Booky Wook, was released and it received rave reviews and was said to "put most other celebrity memoirs to shame". Publishers HarperCollins signed him for a 2-book contract which included the publishing of My Booky Wook in the USA.

Russell then headed off to Hollywood and appeared in the cult film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (2008). He then appeared with David Letterman on his show and drew huge public attention at the MTV Video Music Awards.
